Sedation Dentistry

We understand that a trip to the dentist may not be as appealing as relaxing in a sunny field. However, we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

At Ballard Family Dentistry, we offer sedation dentistry as an option for our patients who experience dental anxiety. There are two types of dental sedation that sedation dentist Dr. Ballard offers:

Oral Conscious Sedation: This dental sedation option involves simply taking a pill before your appointment to relax you. You will feel slightly groggy but relaxed during your dental procedure. This option is not a painkiller so local anesthetic may also be used after the dental sedation pill takes effect. Oral conscious sedation decreases your anxiety and gives you little to no memory of the details of your dental procedure.

Nitrous Oxide: Also known as ‘laughing gas’, this type of dental sedation is less intense than the other two options. With nitrous oxide, you will still be able to respond and interact with your dentist.

Is Dental Sedation Right For You?

You may be a candidate for sedation dentistry if you usually experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Fear of the dentist
  • Sensitive gag reflex
  • Fear of needles or pain
  • Neck or back problems
  • Dental anxiety
  • Low pain threshold
  • Inability to sit still for long periods of time
